KMHD Jazz Radio is operated by OPB. Through this relationship, it receives federal funding – funding that has enabled KMHD to grow its public service mission and to preserve the sound of jazz on the radio for Portland, the Pacific Northwest and the world at large.
That critical funding is now under severe threat. Federal dollars represent roughly $5 million per year for OPB and support all the programs and services it provides – including KMHD.
On June 12, the House of Representatives voted to pass the Rescissions Act of 2025, a bill that eliminates $1.1 billion in funds previously approved for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The bill is now in the Senate for consideration by July 18, though the actual vote could come sooner.
