Monty Alexander
Monty Alexander's bright, swingin' style of piano playing is steeped in the rhythms of the carribean, which is fitting, since our artist in the spotlight was born in Jamaica.
Throughout his musical career, Monty Alexander has made music on his own terms. Though his soulful touch comes from the Reggae music of his homeland; he was influenced by Jazz piano giants like Oscar Peterson, Nat King Cole and Ahmad Jamal. Since the beginning of his career, he's been combining these musical styles to create his own unique, tasteful style.
Whether he was playing alongside Milt Jackson, Ray Brown or his own exceptional recordings, Monty Alexander has long been a fan favorite, and he continues to delight audiences with his performances to this day. From the well-known to the rare gems, we'll be listening a diverse selection of recordings from Monty Alexander all week long on KMHD!
